Read this article, "Justice Alito's warning about nationwide injunction 'loophole' looms over Trump cases", https://www.foxnews.com/person/o/ashley-oliver, about something I predicted would happen and now find out that not only did SCOTUS give them a loophole, they told them what it was. Perhaps SCOTUS is not certain about the collective intelligence of the lower court judges or lawyers that appear before them.

About the fair tax: fallen humans will find a way to cheat. I was a missionary in Argentina for 26 years, where they have a 21% value added tax (IVA). Some unscrupulous businesses will ask if you want a receipt or not, meaning to pay the tax or not. Years ago I heard that in Holland they did the same thing, a black market avoiding the tax. It is also possible for a future government to add other taxes, such as income tax, in addition to the value added tax. Even good ideas are not immune to cheating.

I’ve always believed in Term Limits. If the office of president has a limit, why not the rest of our elected officials! The longer they stay in Congress, the longer their desire for power and wealth grows. Look at Joe Biden and the many other officials that have lasted for years feeding off the trough. Two terms, period, is plenty. Go back and get a job!

Saw this follow-up story, "Girl on Disney cruise fell through porthole as dad jumped to save her in 20-minute fight for survival: police", https://www.foxnews.com/person/r/sarah-rumpf, and I've been on this ship and those aren't "portholes", they are circular openings (visual, cosmetic) in the superstructure with railings in front, and this five year old had to have first been put on the railing by someone. Stop making this sound like the cruise line is at fault in support of your up coming lawsuit. This is likely a "cute picture" turned bad, not a bad ship design, and NO, the ship should not have to put out a sign "do not sit or climb on failing".

Thank you for sharing your knowledge about portholes;

I did not know how such an

awful accident could happen😢

I looked at pictures of the ship and wondered how could this happen especially with Dad right there. There is a jogging rail right there.

IMO. On deck it should be mandatory that kids wear an automatic inflatable life-jacket.

And congrats to the rescue crew!

Read this article, "Iran nuclear program set back 2 years after US strikes: Pentagon", https://www.foxnews.com/person/m/caitlin-mcfall, and I'm not sure why they even bother making these kind of statements. 1) The headline states 2 year impact and the statement itself says 1-2 years. 2) The statement itself says "according to intel assessments inside the department", as if that's supposed to establish credibility. 3) Finally, the statement speculates that Iran may well have given up on developing a nuclear bomb, Really, so now we're to believe that our intelligence service is omniscient? So here we have a statement that is absolute foolishness, is counter to other "news" about the status of the Iran program and facilities, and that's what passes for journalism?

Iran will not allow International Inspectors in to exam the damages.

IMO. It's either massive damage and Iran will lie that no harm is done to it's program and Iran will have a "Paper Tiger". Or they will lie and say horrible damage was done (and it's actually minimal damage and short time to recover) and they will actually start their Nuke Program right up again with us unknowing.

My thought. Hit the sites again with the very first violation of any treaty. Putting the hostage release right at the forefront. 7 days to return hostages or it's "I Donald Trump say load them bombs till the daylight come! Cruise Missile knocking at your door!". Turn the sites into lake Iran.

We should have allowed Israel to finish the job and then turn Iran over to the Citizens of Iran and thus keeping us from a political and military guessing game. ( I know the dems would not like this, but it would be the right thing to do).

Regarding the Edition today and the comment about the stalled BBB, I understand the founders concerns about runaway government and "they preferred gridlock to haste". What they failed to consider is like body weight the gain goes on faster than the loss comes off. Also they failed to consider the possibility that the government would become one not of different opinions but completely different ideologies. Finally they did not come up with something as stupid as the "magic minute". Last, the Fair Tax made it back into the Edition, the only thing missing is any responses to the issues the Far Tax raises, like who will decide and administer all of the exceptions (exemptions or income limitations) that the Fair Tax raises, most all of which stem from one mans necessity is another mans excess, so that's one claim down, the IRS won't be eliminated it will become the "FairTaxRS".

It is spelled out, I believe. All like the annual poverty level we don't pay tax on, individual / children deductions - and t hat all calculates to the debit card. There is a great paperback book on the Fair Tax.

I've been a fan of a fair tax for as long as I can remember. It irritates me that the rich have loopholes, the dependant class pays nothing, but the people who make too much to qualify for help but too little to even take a vacation are taxed and taxed and taxed. It's an extraordinarily unfair system. All around.

Giggle - I lost an argument with my IRS auditor - My contention was that I could either deduct my business percentage of costs/mile OR take the cents per mile driven being allowed. NOPE - you can have both. He was wrong - still let me have BOTH and that audit only cost me $25.

I learned about the Fair Tax many years ago. It is really misunderstood. You pay only on new items and at the point of sale, it is not the VAT tax! So if you do not want to pay taxes, purchase used items. It eliminates the IRS! You get to keep your money. Your taxes depend on what you purchase new.

Yes, prices would go up at first as the tax needs to be added. But you get to keep your entire payroll check. Even illegals would be paying taxes because they also buy stuff.

I agree, reward the behavior you want - productive citizens. Yet I doubt congress would ever change this because the whole tax code is their way to getting campaign contributions and making the backroom deals that hurt the general public. Just look at the BBB - and adding tax incentives to get congress on board. Do you think they would ever change that?

Term Limits

Great idea. How does such a thing get to be reality? This idea has been batted around for a lot of years but apparently no one "in power" will ever let it loose since being a career politician is more addictive than heroin.

Yes, the "Fair Tax" is the way to go. It is true that a tax on what I buy would drive the costs higher but at least I can decide whether to buy the item or not or shop for a better price. However, with what is withheld from my paycheck, my take home pay could more than pay for the increase in price of what I buy. Ambassador Huckabee, you've pushed this idea for a long time. Keep at it! Maybe persistence will pay off someday!

I have studied the FAIR TAX for 20 years. Being a numbers nut, I had to prove to myself it worked. Yes, it would mean a 23% tax on point of sale for new items, BUT! Since corporations get a tax break, the COST of items goes down, therefore the cost to purchase goes DOWN, and the net increase of sales price is about 1% more. And you get to keep the taxes from your paycheck (does that make up for your extra 1%?) AND,,,, wait for it, your family gets a debit card with those IRS deductible allowances we get now, to use for purchases. Even visitors to our USA will pay Fair Tax! Win Win Win.

Would the fair tax affect production of goods? If l’m paying tax on something but that price is lot higher than currently I won’t buy. And that affects production and that affects employment if production goes down due to less purchasing . Just wondering.

Tom Collins's avatar

Great question - since corporations (see reply to Doug) will NOT be charged tax, they will lower their price to compete (we won't buy the high priced stuff). They will sell MORE, they will employ MORE, and we will be HAPPY more! And our cash flow will love us. Blessings!
