Having some familiarity with family members joining the military (army, marines, and air force) I can say that none where motivated in accordance with this article. That being said there is generally no one reason for this decision but I'll offer several I'm personally aware of. 1) The failure from K-12 to prepare students for higher education. 2) The high cost and low reward of higher education. 3) The failure of guiding students into trades. 4) A general lack of motivation and preparation for adult life (the continuing need to be directed). 5) Smart phones and social media has generated lonely isolated people with a lot of "friends" and poor social skills, especially towards adults. The affect of a combination of these factors is young people are not equipped for much other then to be led. Some are led into socialism, others into questioning there identity, and without know where to go most still want "out of the house" and whatever little parental authority they are getting. The military is a refuge, a bed and three square meals. As far as the decision itself I have mixed feelings. The military is a harsh environment that many do not endure without personal damage. Personally I would like to see the entry requirements raised. It would not only benefit the military it would reduce the number who come out more troubled then they went in. In any case this is a PR piece for the military with some well picked examples, but hardly the real picture.

Iran is not magically going to become more honest or less terrorist inclined. They are what they have been for decades (or centuries) and will remain so until made to change and that requires defeat in battle. All you have done is adopt Trump's inability to make a decision.
It's not fair to say that Tillis is opposed to compensating any of the victims of J6 prosecutions. What he's against is $1.776 billion to be doled out to arbitrary persons by Trump administration bureaucrats. The $1.776B is a made-up number based on when the Declaration of Independence was signed rather than any credible total of harms to those who were prosecuted. If they deserve compensation, and I think they do, let them file a class-action suit and provide evidence in a way that can be reviewed by a court, rather than being reimbursed by a slush fund.
